A sign from one of our previous visits greets us outside our mountain accommodations.
This Summer, on our way to Canada, we stopped at my aunt and uncle’s home for a few days. They have just under 50 acres in the lower Sierra Nevada mountains and it’s relaxing and gorgeous up there.
This beautiful lily grows on a vine and hangs upside down over the water.
Their property runs along a creek of cool, clear water lined by some amazing native plants and blackberry bushes. We were there too early for blackberries, but we did get to experience the slow pace of mountain life.

Aside from spending time with family, the next best part of being at my aunt and uncle’s is that they are amazing artists and craftsmen. My aunt works with glass and my uncle with metal. And, my cousin is a superbly-talented wood turner.
A DIY windchime
While we were visiting we got to see a few of my aunt’s new collections and learn about how my uncle and cousin harvest and mill lumber from trees on their property to build a metal shop. We also got to make a few things of our own and generally be inspired.
